Managing documents in the Storeroom
The storeroom can only be accessed by
username and password. This password is different from the usual
password shown in the Gazette newsletter. This archive area is where
the Chapter can store electronic documents such as Board meeting
minutes, financial reports or any other documents used in the course
of the Chapter's business. The username and password are available
from the webmaster or one of the Board members.
Note that if
you access the storeroom via the menu link “Archive storeroom
(pw)”, you can only view or download the documents. If you
want to upload a document you will need an ftp program or use a
shortcut in the IE6 browser. This will work in IE7, but will not
work in Firefox or Opera. I do not know about the Mac Safari
browser, probably not.
First the shortcut using IE6. Type the
ftp address in the “Address” line of the browser,
"ftp.amcnarragansett.org"
instead of the usual "www.amcnarragnsett.org". IE6 will automatically go into ftp mode. See the details in the
IE6
browser page. It is very much similar to the WhizFTP
mentioned below.
FTP programs
The
other way to access the storeroom is by using a formal ftp program. An ftp program can be used to upload and
download files from the AMC web site. There are many ftp programs
available and many office programs have ftp built into them. But if
you do not know how to use an 'ftp' program, I
have included directions on how to use three free ftp programs.
Use any of them, depending
on how computer savy you are. The most popular free ftp program is
FileZilla.
Another less complicated program is DeluxeFTP,
and a "so simple it's stupid" program is WhizFTP.
If all else fails I will give you assistance.
