AMC Activities Listings
An Overview:
Chapter activities are listed various ways.
Our primary listing is our published “Gansett Gazette” newsletter which is mailed to the Chapter members every two months. An on-line version of the Gazette includes all the bi-monthly listings plus additional listings and changes that occur between mailings.
Another listing is derived from activities that have been specifically entered into the Outdoors.org trip database. One output of the database is seen in our line item “Narragansett Activities” which includes only the Narragansett Chapter activities. Another use is for listing committee specific trips in the individual activity pages, such as for biking.
The Narragansett Calendar is a listing of all the activities currently in the Gazettes Newsletter. The calendar allows a quick viewing of common events on any day. Events link to the Gazette for specific details on any activity.
Another source of listings is through the AMC Outdoors Activity database accessed by the line item “Search all AMC Chapters”. It his here that you can search for activities that other chapters have submitted. Since the system is a database, you can searches for specific events, such as all hikes in Maine, or all local bike rides in Rhode Island. Alternatively, searching for all hikes on a certain weekend can show all chapter hikes on that weekend, not just Narragansett hikes.
The AMC Outdoors.org Trip Calendar lists activities. Some major activities are listed by calendar day, other club activities are accessed by clicking on that day. Usually there will be a large number (example on April 14, 2007 there were 83 activities listed on 4 pages). But the list is sortable by columns allows you to search activities by date, region, activity, etc. This calendar is linked as a line item “Check the AMC Calendar”.
A "List Server" mailing list is notification and reminders for upcoming and last minute activities. Signing up is under the line item “Join email lists (pw)”. The username and password to access the page is listed in the mailed Gazette.
The final way activities are listed is the Message Board, where changes to events and related announcements are posted.
All trips have the following risk statement applied to them.
